The Human Life Personhood Amendment to the Michigan Constitution

“What is the “Prenatal Child Protection Amendment?”

It is the ballot initiative amendment to the Michigan Constitution to protect all pre-born children. Pro-life groups, churches, and individuals are collecting signatures through July 7 with plans to have it on the ballot this November.

“What is it they want to amend in the Michigan Constitution?”

The attempt is to amend Section 26 of the MC to state: “The right to due process, whereby no person shall be deprived of Life, liberty, or property vest at conception.” And Section 27: :A ‘person’, for the purposes of the Constitution and laws of the state of Michigan exists from the moment of conception.”

“Why are they doing it this way?”

Doing it this way directly challenges the original Roe vs. Wade decision at its core (a women’s right to choose to end the life of a “non-person’ fetus). Also when the State Constitution defines who a person is, then the issues of specific surgical procedures, “viability” etc., are removed from the Legislature or Governor to amend, misunderstand, or delay.

“What can be done to help?”
